Since Ayla turned 4 it seems like we are invited to a birthday party every week. I love watching how much fun she has with the kids, the utter madness of so many happy faces running around. I also love getting to chat with the other moms. But seriously, do I really need another excuse to eat cake?!
Well today was a birthday party day. Nothing like testing out your will power on day one! Why is that at most of these events people always want to shove food at you?
“Come on…it’s a PARTY!” “It’s just one piece!” “It’s soooooo delicious. You just HAVE to try it”. Yes, ok, it’s a party. You are right, it IS only one piece. And thank you for rubbing it in my face that it tastes fantastic. BUT, when I have one piece now, then a latte and coffee cake when I go out with my friend, then desserts with this group and… well you get the point. I need to start picking and choosing when it’s really worth it to have a treat day. I also need to stress the treat day, not cheat day. Of course we all need to let ourselves stray from extra healthy eating once in awhile but I decided today was not that day.
Thankfully there were lots of fruits and veggies on the table so I made sure to fill up on those. And when it came time for cake I just tried to remember my goals and politely declined. Luckily enough the guests and hosts at this party were gracious enough to respect my decision to eat well.
Now of course if it was my sister in law’s homemade gazillion layered chocolate and ice cream cake. Well that’s a whole different ball game…
What is your biggest food temptation or situation in which you find it most difficult to say “no”?
